Property Fraud Alert – How It Works

Mercer County offers a free email alert service to help protect you from property fraud. When you sign up, you’ll get an email notification anytime a document is recorded in the Mercer County Recorder’s Office with the exact name you registered (first name, last name, and/or business name).

To receive alerts, the name you register must match exactly how it appears on official documents. After signing up, you’ll receive a confirmation email. Be sure to open it and complete the sign-up process. For questions, call the Mercer County Recorder’s Office at 419-586-4232.

PLEASE NOTE: An exact match is required in order for the program to notify you. You will need to sign up for the alert multiple times for each variation of a name as it could appear on a legal document. (Example: Robert, Rob, Bob, Robert L, Rob L, or Bob L) DO NOT USE PERIODS OR COMMAS IN THE NAMES. Multiple names can be linked to the same email address.

If submitting under Personal (names only): ENTER:
First name in the FIRST NAME FIELD
Middle name or initial in MIDDLE NAME FIELD
Last name in LAST NAME FIELD

If using a suffix name:
EXAMPLE: John J Smith, Jr
Enter John in the FIRST NAME FIELD
Enter J Jr in the MIDDLE NAME FIELD
Enter Smith in the LAST NAME FIELD
**Suffixes may not be supported and is recommended to register multiple names**

If submitting as Trustee:
EXAMPLE: John J Smith, Trustee
Enter John in the FIRST NAME FIELD
Enter J Trustee in the MIDDLE NAME FIELD
Enter Smith in the LAST NAME FIELD

If submitting under Business: ENTER:
Business Name (abbreviate Company-Co, Corporation-Corp, Association-Assoc, Partnership-Part )
Business names should be entered exactly as the business name is spelled.
You can also enter Trustee name under Business name.
